Things to do • People to see • Places to go
The sense of community in Hammonton is unmatched. On any given weekend there is a civic, charitable, school or church event that will tickle your funny bone, tempt your palate, put you on the edge of your seat or just appeal to your aesthetic sense. And if we don’t have it here, it’s just a short drive away.
You can relive the 50’s during Cruisin’ MainStreet, enjoy the bubbly stuff at the Rotary Champagne & Pancake Breakfast, enter the Kiwanis Halloween Parade, win big at a Lions Charity Event, laugh at a Fire Company Comedy Night or stop by Hammonton Lake Park for a Little League baseball game or Hammonton Hawks football contest. If you’re in business, make sure you join the Chamber and attend our Annual Installation and Awards Banquet in May – you might be the recipient of an award yourself! The summer spotlights two major events that are unique to our town. The Red, White and Blueberry Festival, celebrating its 23rd year in 2009, pays homage to the State’s Official Fruit. Combine the Cruisin’ Classics’ 500 antique cars, a live stage show, amusements, arts & crafts, great food and literally, millions of blueberries and you have one of the finest family festivals in the country. Mark the Sunday before July 4th each year on your calendar – that’s when you can enjoy Hammonton’s Red, White and Blueberry Festival. For over a century, thousands of worshippers from all over the country have made Hammonton their destination on July 16th and the week surrounding that date. The occasion is truly one of the most storied celebrations on the East Coast – The Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Sponsored by the Mount Carmel Society, it features a feast day religious procession with daily masses the entire week. Add this devotion to a variety of Italian food and amusements at the carnival grounds on 3rd Street and you have a weeklong festival that is truly unique - and uniquely Hammonton. As we stated, if you can’t find it here, then it’s close. Is the outdoor life your idea of fun? Well, you’re in the Pinelands, so unequalled boating, camping, fishing and hunting are at your doorstep. Visit Batsto Village, Atsion Lake or Smithville; take a trip to the legendary Jersey Shore; enjoy the “action” in Atlantic City or taste the grape at a Local or Regional Winery. They are all within 30 miles! If the big city is what you crave, you just have to glance at the map to see that Philadelphia (30 miles west) and New York (90 miles northeast) are a short drive away. And speaking of drives – over 30 Golf Courses are within pitching wedge distance.
